East Palo Alto?

EPA Bay Area map, originally uploaded by _Justice.

For those of you asking about my job status, the search has led to two geographic areas: South Bay and the Central Valley. Ventura and Chula Vista (San Diego) are also possibilities, but not strong ones.

The district that most interests me is Ravenswood City School District, located in East Palo Alto. I am in the process of applying for a kindergarten position at Green Oaks Elementary in Ravenswood. Green Oaks is a K-3 Dual Immersion school, which means that the students are taught (immersed) in two languages throughout the day: Spanish and English. When they are taught in Spanish, students and teachers interact solely in Spanish. When students and teachers are taught in English, they interact in English. Green Oaks is striving to produce students who are biliterate, bilingual, and bicultural. This is very exciting.

There are a number of other DI programs I have applied with, but Ravenswood sounds the best and has a special attraction. I cannot describe exactly why at this point, but it feels right. At CABE, the Human Resource Director and I discussed the school needs, vision, and curriculum. There is a strong compatibility between the school's vision and where God has been directing me. When I am away from all of the job searching materials, pamphlets, and applications, Ravenswood is the district I find myself thinking about the most. The more challenges I discover in the district, the more exciting it sounds. RCSD sounds like a great place to make a difference in the lives of children. East Palo Alto may be my new home in September.
