Liz, Black & White

16 Liz Argentina CU, originally uploaded by _Justice.

Sometimes people become annoyed when you snap a picture without warning them, but occasionally the spontaneity captures a natural expression that is impossible to create any other way. When you have a moment like that on film, you show it to the photographed party. Hopefully they will understand that you took the picture, not to play a trick on them, but rather to let them see themselves through your eyes. I feel the unguarded moment of this particular shot does portray my cousin as I see her: strong, beautiful, daring (look closely at the haircut), and very, very human. It was taken July 2004 at a family prayer meeting (pre-Argentina). I LOVE YOU, LIZ!

Dragostea Din Tei

These are two funny sites featuring the O-Zone song "Dragostea Din Tei", sometimes called "Miya Hi" or "Numa Numa."

The first site features Gary Brolsma of Saddle Brook, NJ, lip-synching the song in front of a webcam. He has actually released 3 versions, but this one loads instantly if you have the right application (either Windows MultiMedia Player, Real Player or Quicktime - sorry, I forget which). It is hysterical.

The second site has an arrangement of Napolean Dynamite dancing to the song. Someone spliced a movie clip together with "Numa Numa" and voila! Instant low-budget entertainment. Click on the Napolean Dynamite picture in the left hand side of your screen once you arrive and wait while it loads. This site requires flash player.
FYI: Some of Napolean's dance moves may bother people. However, it's cheesy, not seductive, so I'm including it.

O-Zone from Romania. This site has a translation of the Romanian lyrics:

A WORD OF CAUTION: Not everything on these sites is clean. However, the offensive material is clearly labeled, so if you stick to the straight and narrow you'll have a good time. Also, I did not encounter any pop-up ads or nasty surprises (ie, misleading hyperlinks).

East Palo Alto?

EPA Bay Area map, originally uploaded by _Justice.

For those of you asking about my job status, the search has led to two geographic areas: South Bay and the Central Valley. Ventura and Chula Vista (San Diego) are also possibilities, but not strong ones.

The district that most interests me is Ravenswood City School District, located in East Palo Alto. I am in the process of applying for a kindergarten position at Green Oaks Elementary in Ravenswood. Green Oaks is a K-3 Dual Immersion school, which means that the students are taught (immersed) in two languages throughout the day: Spanish and English. When they are taught in Spanish, students and teachers interact solely in Spanish. When students and teachers are taught in English, they interact in English. Green Oaks is striving to produce students who are biliterate, bilingual, and bicultural. This is very exciting.

There are a number of other DI programs I have applied with, but Ravenswood sounds the best and has a special attraction. I cannot describe exactly why at this point, but it feels right. At CABE, the Human Resource Director and I discussed the school needs, vision, and curriculum. There is a strong compatibility between the school's vision and where God has been directing me. When I am away from all of the job searching materials, pamphlets, and applications, Ravenswood is the district I find myself thinking about the most. The more challenges I discover in the district, the more exciting it sounds. RCSD sounds like a great place to make a difference in the lives of children. East Palo Alto may be my new home in September.
